Plystone: Floor Substrate

Commercial Description

Plycem Floor Substrate is the building element developed to create a firm, stable horizontal plane with capacity to safely support the strain generated by the action of its own weight and the working load acting upon it, transmitting the load of primary structures of the building, and defining a vertical limit between two spaces.

It substitutes very efficiently traditional constructive processes such as concrete slabs made with timber or plywood forms and steel armatures, prone to continuous water-proofing jobs.

Instead, Plystone boards are used, with a minimum thickness of 20 mm, adequately fastened to the structure (see the Applications Guide).

Its high resistance to flexural strain, low weight, as well as fast installation, versatility and functionality make Plycem the ideal solution for the construction of floor substrates. It only requires a proper structural system with wood, metal or concrete beams on top of it, you can then lay any type of floor finishing.

With the same building criteria of a traditional floor slab, the use of Plycem boards comes as an alternative for the ‘lost-forms’ used during the pouring of a reinforced concrete floor. Its resistance to humidity makes unnecessary to disassemble it afterwards, due to the uniformity of its surface it may remain incorporated to the slab as the definite ceiling element.

Types

Dry Substrate: The Plycem boards provide the substrate itself, acting as the pavement of a floor. Final floor finishing shall be flexible and light-weight. Will not be subjected to humidity at any moment.

Lost-forms: There will be a regular ceiling, and for this reason the reverse face of the boards will not remain visible. A space is created very conveniently to run electrical or A/C ducts, as well as acting as an insulation space.

Properties

  • Resistant to humidity, insects and fungi
  • Non-combustible
  • Low weight
  • Longitudinal edges with mechanical joints
  • Good electrical insulation
  • Compatible with other types of finishings (carpet, vinyl, wood, ceramic)
  • Clean and dry

Uses

  • New buildings with traditional / light weigh systems
  • Refurbishing / remodeling of existing buildings
  • Fitting of floors in attics and on superstructures
  • Prefabricated construction
  • Offices or communal buildings
